ASUN Lit Pub

ASUN Lit Pub is Â鶹ԭ´´™s literary and fine arts publication, featuring poetry, short fiction, artwork, research, literary analysis, and creative work from students, faculty, staff, and community contributors.

Explore current and past issues, learn about submissions, and see how ASUN students and community voices are celebrated through literature and the arts.

Student Activities

Â鶹ԭ´´ offers a variety of co-curricular events to engage and support students on and off-campus.

Â鶹ԭ´´ Coffeehouse

These events are held monthly on the ASUN-Jonesboro and Newport campuses to showcase the musical and vocal talents of the student community. Â鶹ԭ´´ Hospitality students prepare the light snacks served at the event. It is an open mic format that allows students to perform at leisure and transportation from the other campuses can be provided.

Black History Month

Black History Month is celebrated on each campus with a viewing of educational videos, showcases of black history literature, and famous figures quotes displayed throughout campus. Students have the opportunity to complete the virtual learning journey - Civil Rights Movement in their online Canvas course.

Campus Police Classes

Arkansas State University “ Newport's campus police department work to enhance the safety of the member of the ASUN community and the security of all the campus' facilities. Campus Police provide a safe and secure environment through campus patrol, parking/traffic enforcement, emergency response, accident investigation, safety training, compliance and security reporting, nightly escort service, and unlocking vehicle doors. Campus Police also teach informative classes on a variety of topics including active shooter, bullying, domestic violence, drug & alcohol prevention, identity theft, sexual assault, and stalking.

Career Services

Arkansas State University-Newport Career Services provides ASUN students with the knowledge, skills, and connections to become confident in their career exploration. Students have the opportunity to meet with a staff member to receive a resume critique, review of their cover letter, and participate in a mock interview.

A variety of career planning presentations and workshops for classes or student organizations are also available on a variety of topics including career services overview, leadership, job search preparation, interviewing, resume/cover letter, professional image, and social media presence. Career Services also plans career fairs throughout the year to link students with possible career opportunities.

Christmas Parades

Students participate in decorating and riding on the ASUN float for local Christmas parades in Newport, Jonesboro, and Marked Tree communities.

Citizenship and Constitution Day

Â鶹ԭ´´ observes Constitution Day with a variety of activities and resources to promote the study of the constitution each September to commemorate the September 17, 1787 signing of the United States Constitution. Each campus library showcases literature detailing the Constitution and voter registration forms for faculty, staff, and students. Students have the opportunity to complete the Constitution Day course in Canvas.

Leadership Retreats

Â鶹ԭ´´ student leaders have the opportunity to attend off-campus leadership retreats. Students travel to attend workshops focused on leadership development, career preparation, and business etiquette. Students network with fellow college peers, mentors, and four-year university recruiters.

Spring Fling

These are fun events that are held to celebrate the end of the Spring semester and promote alcohol and drug prevention. Students enjoy food, t-shirts, and outdoor activities while having fun in a drug and alcohol-free environment. Educational activities are planned to teach students how to celebrate responsibly.

Student Health Fair

Student Health Fairs are held on each campus and provided by the Â鶹ԭ´´ Nursing Department. Nursing students and faculty provide free health screenings for the students. Screenings include fingerstick glucose screening, BMI, blood pressure screening, and education on testicular self-exam, breast self-exam, and sexually transmitted diseases.

Welcome Week

Activities are scheduled at the beginning of the Fall and Spring semesters to welcome students and acquaint them with the campus.

Student Organizations

Join one of Â鶹ԭ´´'s student-lead organizations! By joining an organization, you will take part in unique student engagement opportunities to enhance your leadership skills, build relationships with peers, and engage in networking experiences with local business and community leaders. Student organizations are the pulse of our learning community while at Â鶹ԭ´´. Therefore, our students enjoy a wide array of student-led organizations, spanning from professional to social, with a wide spectrum of activities to cultivate a student-centered environment while on campus. Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) International Honor Society

The mission of Phi Theta Kappa, an exclusive international academic honor society, is to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students and to provide opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service and fellowship programming.

To become a member of Phi Theta Kappa is not only an honor but an opportunity to grow scholastically, develop leadership qualities and make a difference through service both in and out of your community. In order to be eligible for Phi Theta Kappa, students must:

• Be enrolled in an accredited institution offering an associate degree program
• Complete a minimum of 12 hours of coursework leading to an associate degree
• Have a 3.5-grade point average
• Enjoy full rights of citizenship.

Student Government Association (SGA)

The Student Government Association of Â鶹ԭ´´ is dedicated to the service and betterment of the college and its surrounding communities by fostering and exhibiting university spirit, respect, and responsibility. SGA makes a commitment to encourage the student body to get involved in worthy projects and to serve the general welfare of the institution. In short, SGA helps build leadership skills, develop friendships and networks, and it looks great on a resume or a transfer application.

Student Surgical Technologist Organization

The Student Surgical Technologist Organization is dedicated to the service and betterment of the college, its surrounding community, and the career of Surgical Technologist. We will realize this mission by fostering and exhibiting university spirit, respect, responsibility, and honoring the accepted practices of the career of Surgical Technologist.
