Chancellor Leadership
Ike Wheeler was named ASUN's fourth Chancellor on September 28, 2026. .
Ike Wheeler serves as Chancellor of Arkansas State University-Newport, bringing more than three decades of experience and service to the institution. With a deep commitment to Â鶹Դ´ and the communities it serves, Wheeler provides leadership focused on institutional excellence, student success and expanding opportunities throughout the region.
Wheeler was named Interim Chancellor of Â鶹Դ´ effective August 1, 2025, following his service as Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement. After leading the college in an interim capacity for more than a year, he was appointed Chancellor by the Arkansas State University System Board of Trustees on September 28, 2026.
In December 2019, Wheeler was named Vice Chancellor for Leadership and Community Engagement at ASUN. In 2023, his title was changed to Vice Chancellor for Advancement to better reflect his growing role in fundraising and institutional advancement. His responsibilities have included campus outreach and events, alumni relations, fundraising and community engagement.
During Wheeler™s more than 30 years with Â鶹Դ´, he has witnessed and helped support the institution™s transformation from a small technical college serving approximately 600 students into a comprehensive, three-campus community college serving thousands of students throughout Northeast Arkansas. That growth has included the expansion of online education, development of new academic and workforce programs, successful business and industry partnerships, and innovative opportunities that have changed the lives of students and strengthened the communities ASUN serves.
Wheeler holds both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts from Arkansas State University. His professional and community affiliations include Arkansas Community Colleges, the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships, the Jackson County Historical Society and Iron Mountain Regional Arts.
He resides in Swifton, Arkansas.
